REUNION RUN: A military term: going into combat recklessly, knowing you're likely to die.
In REUNION RUN, Danny, a troubled inner-city schoolteacher and his cousin, Ronnie, an Army captain, fall in love at a family reunion. After serving in Iraq, she returns, changed, and they struggle to help each other reassemble their lives.
Earlier this summer, critics responded enthusiastically to John Doble's collection of one-act plays A SERIOUS PERSON AND THEN SOME, presented at the Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival. Ed Malin of nytheatre.com said the plays provided an evening of "nicely heightened drama," and Zachary Stewart of Theatermania called the plays "uncommonly thoughtful...expertly-acted." Karen D'Onofrio of Electronic Link Journey wrote, "These plays are fun...expertly-written."
JOHN DOBLE's earlier plays include A SERIOUS PERSON (finalist, Best Play, Eclectic Company Theatre, LA, and Manhattan Rep, 2013);COFFEE HOUSE, GREENWICH VILLAGE (finalist, Best Play, Nantucket Short Play festival, 2013, and Midwinter Madness New Play Festival, NYC, 2012); TO PROTECT THE POETS (showcase, NYC; semi-finalist, Best New Play, National Arts Club and Reverie Productions); THE MAYOR WHO WOULD BE SONDHEIM (NYC International Fringe Festival; finalist, Best Play, Playwrights Center New Play Competition, Minneapolis, and Stage3 Theatre Company Festival of New Plays, Sonora, CA); BLIND DATE (Samuel French, NYC); THE MORTGAGE (Pulse Ensemble Theatre, NYC).
