The modern movie musical remake of beloved children's classic ANNIE is currently in production, on location filming on the streets of New York City and stars Quvenzhane Wallis and Jamie Foxx were spotted on the set earlier this week, with Wallis providing updates to fans and followers via social media.

Wallis posted a selfie from the set of ANNIE and wrote on Twitter on Tuesday, "First day of shooting and it went great. I had so much fun with everybody."

Following subsequent shooting days, she recently updated her status, writing, "Shooting on the street today was different. A lot of people were watching, but I had fun."

The young recent BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD Oscar nominee was spotted on the set of ANNIE in Harlem earlier this month and the first shots from the on location shoot to leak is available here and here.

ANNIE is directed by Will Gluck from a script by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna, starring Quvenzhane Wallis as Annie, Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stacks (aka Daddy Warbucks), Cameron Diaz as Miss Hannigan along with Rose Byrne as Grace Farrell and Bobby Cannavale in a new role.

The starry roster of producers for the film include Will Smith and Jay Z, who also serves as music supervisor. Jay Z famously had a Top Ten hit with a rap version of the show's famous orphan theme "It's A Hard Knock Life" called "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)".

The film is reportedly a modern-day adaptation of the stage musical, set in contemporary New York City.

Of note, the property was previously first filmed by famed director John Huston in 1982, starring Aileen Quinn as Annie and Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks, as well as lensed by CHICAGO helmer Rob Marshall in 1999, starring Alicia Morton and Victor Garber.

The original stage musical of ANNIE was based on Harold Gray's 1924 comic strip LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE and was directed by Martin Charnin, featuring music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan. Subsequently, the musical has been revived on Broadway twice, with the most recent revival playing at the Palace Theatre, directed by James Lapine and starring Lilla Crawford in the title role.

The big screen remake of ANNIE is set to be released on Christmas Day, 2014.
