TimesTalks, The New York Times live conversation and performance series, is proud to host a conversation between Pussy Riot's Nadya Tolokonnikova and performance artist Marina Abramovic, moderated by New York Times contributor Melena Ryzik on May 14. The artists will discuss the political aims of performance, the intersection of activism and feminism, and the role of the artist in modern society.
Since 2011, Pussy Riot has been creating agitprop art pieces, resisting censorship, mass surveillance and torture in prisons and police departments. For the last five years, Pussy Riot has been working on providing non-fake news and analytics to Russians through the online multimedia platform Mediazona.
Over the past five decades, Abramovic has pioneered the use of performance as a visual art form, creating some of the movement's most important early works. She now supports her legacy through the Marina Abramovic Institute (MAI), a platform for immaterial and long durational work. This event will take place on May 14 at Florence Gould Hall, and be live streamed on TimesTalks.com and TimesTalks YouTube channel, starting at 7:00PM EST. Select media passes are available. If interested, please contact Ali Rigo (ali@culturalcounsel.com) to discuss coverage opportunities. TimesTalks, now celebrating its 20th year, is known for providing a platform for engaging and spirited discourse between the most iconic and culturally relevant creative voices of our time.Videos
