Punk storms White Eagle Hall with four of the leading bands currently revitalizing the genre. This exclusive punk rock extravaganza - features co-headliners the Queers and the Ataris and opening bands the Friendz and the Red Hymns - takes place at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City on September 26.
Formed in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1982, the Queers, with 11 studio albums and several live releases and EPS, play a no-nonsense punk, heavily influenced by the Ramones and '60s bubblegum pop. Joe King, founder, singer, guitarist and songwriter, along with his ever-changing cast of musicians, is renowned for his take-no-prisoner shows.
The Ataris was founded 1995 in Anderson, Indiana, by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Kris Roe, who wrote and recorded his first demos in his bedroom using a drum machine. More than 20 years - and five studio albums and numerous EPS and live-recordings - later, the Ataris have gained a loyal following among the underground rock scene, a popularity mainly due to their consistent touring and personal, DIY approach to music-making. About a recent record, Punknews.org described the band's sound as "not really pop-punk...not skate-punk...just flat-out rock."
Supporting the Queers and the Ataris at White Eagle Hall will be two New Jersey-based punk bands, the Friendz and Red Hymns. The Friendz, founded in 1987, have a long list of recordings that may never have made the mainstream, but are beloved by punk aficionados. During their ongoing career, the Friendz have opened for the Ramones, L7 and the Misfits. The newest kids on the bill, the Red Hymns, were formed in December of 2015 and their melodic but raw sound has been compared to Circa Survive and the Deftones. The Red Hymn recently released their debut recording, EP: Vol. 1.
Originally constructed in 1910, the newly restored White Eagle Hall is an impressive new venue for arts and entertainment, including concerts, theater, performances and other events in the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan area. White Eagle Hall features complete Food & Beverage service, with two bars on the mezzanine level and one on the balcony level. The restoration enhanced the intimacy and charm of this historic venue while adding the latest in sound and lighting technology, creating a distinctive and memorable audience experience.
