Prospect Theater Company (Cara Reichel, Producing Artistic Director / Melissa Huber, Managing Director) announces a one-show-only concert reading of their original musical The Flood, on Saturday, October 19th at 3pm. First developed by Prospect in 2000-2001, with a subsequent full production in 2006, the book, music and lyrics of this new musical are by founding company members Peter Mills and Cara Reichel. This special encore concert presentation will raise funds to support Prospect's work developing new musicals by emerging writers. The concert is directed by Cara Reichel and music directed by Daniel Feyer.
The Flood is an original musical based on the historic 1993 flooding of the Mississippi River, inspired by the town of Valmeyer, Illinois, whose levee broke on August 1, 1993. Following the devastating flood, the citizens of Valmeyer moved their entire town to higher ground. This concert commemorates the 20th anniversary of their courageous decision. In 2007, the show came full circle and received its regional premiere at the Monroe Actors Stage Company theater, just outside of Valmeyer.
Presented at the Baruch Performing Arts Center (55 Lexington Avenue, entrance on East 25thbetween Third and Lexington Avenues, NYC), ticket prices for this special event range from $25 - $75. Tickets may be secured in advance by calling 212-352-3101 or visiting www.ProspectTheater.org. Or, they are available in person at the Baruch Performing Arts Center box office.
