David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Proof is the next entry of the Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy's series of summer productions in North Carolina. The show will run at the Kennedy Theatre in downtown Raleigh's BTI Center for the Performing Arts from June 29th to July 10th.

A show for mature audiences, Proof is "a beautiful drama about the intellect of the human mind, but also the heavy responsibilities on family when love, guilt, mental illness and death come into play and the test of still being able to find one's own true self through it all," according to production notes.

"Proof
centers on Catherine (GiGi Delizza) the daughter of a once-brilliant mathematician who drops out of college to care for her aging father Robert (Chris Chappell). She is at once attracted and repelled by his genius and worries whether she has inherited her father's instability. Her sister Claire (Tracey Phillips), who lives in New York, returns to Chicago for their father's funeral.  Upon their return, the audience is introduced to Hal (Jonathan Putterman) a former student of their father, who salvages something meaningful from the stacks of notes their father kept.  Falling in love with Hal, Catherine learns how much she and her father may have in common.  When Catherine says it was she, not her father, who created the proof, trust between the two young lovers as well as between the sisters, is put to the test."

Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy runs though August 28, 2005 with each production in the six-show series completing a 10-day run.  Other shows in the season include Starting Here, Starting Now and a special season ender featuring Lauren Kennedy and her husband Alan Campbell In Concert. Other stars in the summer season include Raleigh favorite, Michael Hunsaker alongside Melissa Kite, who will both star in the season's fourth show, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
