Gingold Theatrical Group's Project Shaw returns Monday, October 22 at 7PM at The Players (16 Gramercy Park South) for two utterly ridiculous one-acts by George Bernard Shaw: Press Cuttings and with Passion, Poison and Petrifaction.
These two short and highly entertaining plays will feature Matthew Arkin, Patricia Conolly, Jayne Houdyshell, Charlotte Moore, Euan Morton, Brian Murray, Michael Musto. Howard Kissel will host. David Staller is producer and director.
Passion, Poison and Petrifaction is one of Shaw's most light-hearted larks: involving murder, sex, betrayal, finance and seltzer. Press Cuttings is Shaw's 'suffragette comedy', involving a Prime Minister in drag, a conservative General out of control and some very determined women.
Tickets are only $15 and are available after the first of the month. 212-352-3101 or online at ProjectShaw.com
Passion, Poison and Petrifaction (or The Fatal Gazogene): A Brief Tragedy for Barns and Booths was written in 1905. Taking place in a bed-sitting room in a fashionable quarter of London; the cast features Jayne Houdyshell (Lady Magnesia Fitztollemache), Patricia Conolly (Phyllis, her maid), Brian Murray (George Fitzteollebache, her husband), Euan Morton (Adolphus Bastable, a leader of fashion), Charlotte Moore (Landlady), Matthew Arkin (Police Constable) and a Mysterious Person as the Doctor.
Press Cuttings: (A Topical Sketch Compiled From The Editorial and Correspondence Columns of the Daily Papers During the Woman's War in 1909) take place in General Mitchener's Office in the War Office on the forenoon of the First of April, 1909. The cast features Brian Murray (General Mitchener of the Army Council), Matthew Arkin (Balsquith, Prime Minister), Patricia Conolly (Mrs. Farrell, War Office Charwoman), Euan Morton (An Orderly), Charlotte Moore (Mrs. Banger, Secretary of the United Anti-Suffragettes) and Jayne Houdyshell (Lady Corinthia Fanshawe, President of the Same).
