A preview of the new musical, The Thing About Joe will take place on Monday, November 13 at the McGinn/Cazale Theater (Broadway and 76th St.).  The book and lyrics were written by BMI workshop's Matthew Hardy and the music is by award-winning composer Randy Klein.

Produced as part of the BMI workshop's Musical Mondays Theater Lab, the curtain goes up at 6:15.

"Take Joe Christiansen from Preston, Idaho, who is pursuing his dream to become the best maitre d' in New York City...add Gloria, a dedicated Duane-Reade pharmacist, Carmine, an outer-boro pizza czar... then toss in a psychiatrist/prescription-writing mother in Idaho, a pyromaniacal girlfriend, and many other unique New Yorkers.  Chill overnight and you've got The Thing About Joe."

Based on a real life story, the press materials guarantee that "you've never seen a show like this before."

Texas born Matthew Hardy is entering his second year in the BMI Workshop.  His short musical The Rubberers will be produced in BMI's spring season.   Matthew created and performed his own cabaret act entitled Songs for the Dysfunctional and toured nationally with Fosse.

Composer Randy Klein is also an accomplished pianist. He has a shelf of Emmys for his documentary/film work and two Gold Records for his R&B work.  With lyricist Isidore Elias, his work for the theatre includes Move!, commissioned by the Royal Theatre Carre', Amsterdam, I Don't Do Club Dates (BMI Foundation grant) for the National Musical Theater Network and the John Harms Center for the Arts, and Capture The Moon, based on the Eastern European folklore stories of the Wise Men of Chelm. Klein and Elias' Falling Apart, a chamber musical utilizing elements of both musical theater and jazz, was previously produced at Musical Mondays.
