Poetic Theater Productions to Present CONSCIOUS LANGUAGE with Saul Williams, Jose Rivera & More, 8/18-20

Poetic Theater Productions (Jeremy Karafin and Alex Mallory, Co-Artistic Directors) kicks off its 5th season August 18-20 at Wild Project with Conscious Language: conversation and performance on the power of the spoken word curated by emcee/playwright muMs (HBO's "Oz", upcoming "A Sucker Emcee" at LAByrinth Theater Company) and featuring poet/musician Saul Williams (Broadway's Holler If Ya Hear Me, "Slam"), playwrights José Rivera (Marisol, "The Motorcycle Diaries") and Dominique Morisseau (Detroit 67, Sunset Baby), poet/recording artist Ursula Rucker (She Said, Ruckus Soundsysdom, 3 albums with The Roots), director/producer Kamilah Forbes (Sunset Baby, "Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry", Hip Hop Theatre Festival) and more. Speaking about his impulse to create Conscious Language, muMs says "My hope is that this festival will be the beginning of an important discussion about the responsibility we have as artists to our community". In theme with Conscious Language, the Wild Project lobby will host an exhibition of work by influential graffiti artist BOM5.

MONDAY AUGUST 18TH @ 7PM
The opening evening will feature performances of work by Craig muMs Grant and a conversation on Conscious Language: The Landscape of Responsibility with spoken word artists & activists Ursula Rucker and Caroline Rothstein, moderated by muMs.

TUESDAY AUGUST 19TH @ 7PM
Tuesday will feature performances of work by Lauren Whitehead and Maurice Decaul and a conversation on Conscious Language: Words that Drive Movements with Maurice Decaul, Lauren Whitehead, Craig muMs Grant and Darian Dauchan, moderated by Co-Artistic Director Alex Mallory, plus performances of new poems inspired by or in response to classic activist poems.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 20TH @7PM
The final evening will feature performances of six short plays written by the poets in the Conscious Language workshop and a conversation on Conscious Language In Practice with Saul Williams, José Rivera, Dominique Morisseau and Kamilah Forbes, moderated by muMs.
