Redux Productions will present Alexander Poe's I Was Tom Cruise, on August 11th - 22th at the Connelly Theatre (220 East 4th St, between Ave. A&B) as part of the New York International Fringe Festival.
The show "tells the story of Frank and Paula, a young couple whose world is turned upside down when they're befriended by
Tom Cruise while he's shooting a film in their building. Taking Frank into his confidence, Tom presents him with a Faustian bargain that changes Frank's life forever. A comedy about the cult of celebrity and the dangers of getting everything you want." It is co-directed by Poe and
Joseph Varca.
The cast includes Jeff Addiss,
Gideon Banner,
Jeff Berg,
Teddy Bergman Cormac Bluestone, Natasha David,
Colby DiSarro, Amy Flanagan,
Victoria Haynes, and Laura Perloe.
Poe has directed productions at the
Williamstown Theatre Festival Workshop as well as last year's Fringe success,
Amerika, with Varca (Winner of the Fringe Award for Outstanding Ensemble). Varca, who is also one of the designers of the production, has composed original scores and designed set and lights that have been featured in the Redux productions,
Amerika, City of Glass, System Shock, and
Concentration City.
The show will feature set design by
Andrew Boyce, winner of the 2003 Kennedy Center Barbizon award for design, and costume design by
Sarah Cubbage.
The show plays: Friday the 11th at 7:15 p.m., Tues. the 15th at 3 p.m., Fri. the 18th at 5:15 p.m., Sun. the 20th at 4:30 p.m., and Tues. the 22nd at 7:30 p.m.
