The New York Theatre Experience, Inc. (NYTE) has announced publication of "Plays and Playwrights 2007" on February 15, 2007. This is the eighth volume in NYTE's annual series of anthologies of new plays by never-before-published playwrights.
"Plays and Playwrights 2007" features eleven works that premiered off-off-Broadway between September 2005-September 2006: LENZ by bluemouth inc., Office Sonata by Andy Chmelko, Kiss and Cry by Tom Rowan (nominated for a 2007 GLAAD Award), They're Just Like Us by Boo Killebrew, Convergence by Bryn Manion, Red Tide Blooming by Taylor Mac (P.S. 122's Ethyl Eichelberger Award commission), The Adventures of Nervous-Boy by James Comtois, Another Brief Encounter by Stan Richardson, Corps Values by Brendon Bates, Diving Normal by Ashlin Halfnight, and 'nami by Chad Beckim.
The volume also features a 75-page appendix providing a directory of more than 600 new American plays produced in New York during the 2005-06 theatre season.
The book is edited by Martin Denton. In addition to the complete texts of the plays, it includes biographical information about the playwrights, production data, and an introductory essay by Denton. The foreword is by Obie Award-winner
John Clancy.
Denton is the editor of all previous "Plays and Playwrights" collections, as well as the recent "Playing with Canons: Explosive New Works from Classic Literature by America's Indie Playwrights." He is the founder and executive director of The New York Theatre Experience, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that uses new and traditional media to provide advocacy and support for American theatre.
