Playhouse South will present The Lion in Winter, a comedic drama by James Goldman. Performances will be June 19-21 and June 26-28, 2009 in the Clark Haines Theater, 3700 Far Hills Avenue in Kettering. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm.

Press notes describe, "Nobody ever said family life was easy! For proof, just ask England's Royal Family! Better yet, ask King Henry II, the center of this brilliant historical drama, who finds his 12th century family life chock full of political intrigue - not to mention a cast of scheming relatives. The Lion in Winter tells the story of King Henry II, and his imprisoned wife Eleanor of Aquitaine as they treacherously plot against each other with the help of their three sons who are battling for their fathers favor - and his crown. Meanwhile, King Philip of France takes advantage of the infighting in his bid to destroy the kingdom in this humorous dysfunctional family drama."

Directed by Craig Smith, the play features many actors who have built a solid reputation among local theater fans. Chuck Larkowski, in the role of Henry II, was most recently featured as George in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf at Dayton Playhouse.

In the role of Henry's exiled wife, Eleanor is Pam McGinnis. McGinnis was also featured in Virginia Woolf as Martha. Cast as Henry's three sons are Alex Carmichael as Richard, Jeff Sams as Geoffrey and Bobby Mitchum as John. Rounding out the cast is Karan Singh as Philip and Julie Beebe as Alais.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (over 60) and $7 for students.
