Playhouse Creatures Theatre to Host 3rd Annual NYC Tennessee Williams Festival, 6/28-29

Playhouse Creatures Theatre Company to host 3rd Annual NYC Tennessee Williams Festival, Sunday June 28th and Monday June 29th.

Sunday June 28th kicks off at 3:00 with student readings of early Tennessee Williams' one-act plays directed by Pace University students Bessie Nellis, The Magic Tower, and Scott Davis, The Parade. These will be followed by a selected reading from The Two Character Play, with Rutanya Alda (The Deer Hunter, Mommie Dearest) and Austin Pendleton (What's Up Doc?, A Beautiful Mind, My Cousin Vinny).

The afternoon culminates at 6:00 p.m. with a Directors Panel featuring Lee Breuer (founding member of Mabou Mines, A Streetcar Named Desire in Paris), and Karen Kohlhaas (founding member of the Atlantic Theater Company, A Kind of Alaska, Body Awareness), Jodie Markell (Machinal, the film, The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond), and Austin Pendleton (Between Riverside and Crazy and numerous Williams revivals including Vieux Carré at the Pearl Theater), in conversation with Thomas Keith (Williams' Editor for New Directions and Creative Producer of The Mutilated).

Monday June 29th begins at 7:00 pm with a reading of Tennessee's The Pink Bedroom, featuring Tony-nominated Actress Geneva Carr (Hand to God) and Joseph W. Rodriguez (Buffalo Hair at The Public, The Libertine), followed by a short interview with Geneva Carr.

Director and playwright Emily Mann (Artistic Director of the McCarter Theater, A Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway, and many others) will then engage in conversation with Thomas Keith to discuss Ms. Mann's upcoming production of Tennessee Williams' Baby Doll at the McCarter Theatre. Adapted from Williams' screenplay by Pierre Laville and Emily Mann, and directed by Ms. Mann.

Sunday June 28th, doors open at 2:30 pm. Student readings from 3-4:30, The Two Character Play reading 5-5:30, and Directors Panel from 6-7 pm.

Monday June 29th, doors open at 6:30. Pink Bedroom reading and interview from 7-7:40, Emily Mann and Thomas Keith in conversation from 8-9pm.

The 3rd Annual NYC Tennessee Williams Festival will be held at the Duo Multicultural Arts Center, 2nd floor. 62 E 4th St, between 2nd Ave and Bowery. Take the F train to 2nd Ave or 6 train to Astor Place. No wheelchair access.

Both events are free! Reservations not required, but available for free, general seating on www.smarttix.com. Reservations only available online; no telephone. Seating is limited and first come, first serve.
