Six well known doo wop groups featuring Kenny Vance & The Planotones, The Duprees, Vito Picone & The Elegants, The Emotions and Barbara Harris & The Toys will perform in a Valentine Love Songs & Memories Performance at the St. George Theatre on Friday, February 12.
As a kid in New York, Kenny Vance was captivated by the magic of rock ‘n roll. He was one of the founders of "Jay and the Americans', which went on to record 15 albums and tour extensively. Kenny Vance and The Planotones redefine oldies with vocal authority and freshness, as exemplified by their signature song, "Looking For An Echo".
The Duprees are known the world over for their romantic interpretations of some of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Their New Jersey street-corner roots still audible in the doo wop harmonies, The Duprees became known for mixing doo-wop vocals with big band arrangements. They were very good at what they did, and successful, with: "You Belong to Me" making the Top Ten. The Duprees followed up this success with "My Own True Love", "Have You Heard," and "Why Don't You Believe Me", all Top 40 hits.Pictured: The Duprees
