Pittsburgh Cultural Trust to Present New Nicole Czapinski Exhibit at 707 Penn Gallery, 11/15-12/31

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announces the presentation of an exhibition of three-dimensional drawing, threaded colors // drawing lines by artist Nicole Czapinski. The exhibition is on view at 707 Penn Gallery in the Cultural District November 15-December 31, 2013.

Czapinski constructs wooden frames enclosed by sheer fabric, creating semi-transparent, two-sided screens. Varicolored thread is woven between the two fabric panels, effectively creating three-dimensional drawings of polygons that appear to float in space. Through backlighting the structured string and sheer fabric, the negative space within the frames becomes palpable. The work-an exploration of sculpture, painting, and drawing-investigates perception.

Nicole Czapinski, a Pittsburgh native, graduated with a bachelor of arts from Bennington College in Vermont. She has held solo exhibitions in Pittsburgh and has been included in group shows throughout the northeastern United States. Best know for her lightbox constructions, Czapinski currently resides in San Francisco, California.
