Based on the smash hit 2003 film, SCHOOL OF ROCK - THE MUSICAL follows Dewey Finn, a failed wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. Completely disinterested in academic work, Dewey decides to create his own curriculum, turning his class into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.

In honor of opening night tonight, BroadwayWorld brings you a special roundup of sights, sounds, and fun facts about the new musical, below! Make sure to check back tonight as we bring you all the reviews for the new show in real-time as they roll in.

School of Rock - THE MUSICAL features music from the movie, as well as an original score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater, with a book by Julian Fellowes and direction by Laurence Connor.

Warner Bros. Records released the Original Broadway Cast Recording for SCHOOL OF ROCK - THE MUSICAL on Friday, December 4, 2015, on the eve of opening night. The new album featured a new score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater, along with three songs from the immensely popular 2003 film. Three-time Grammy Award-winner Rob Cavallo, who has worked with Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Goo Goo Dolls, Phil Collins, and Gary Clark Jr., produced the album along with Lloyd Webber.

Before heading to Broadway this fall, School of Rock - THE MUSICAL rocked the Gramercy Theatre (127 E 23rd Street) for a brief residency, June 3rd through June 6th, with a public performance, starring Alex Brightman as 'Dewey Finn'. BroadwayWorld brought you a first look at the cast in action at the showcase, including an introduction by Andrew Lloyd Webber, below!

Fun facts:

Andrew Lloyd Webber teamed with R&H Theatricals before the show's opening night on Broadway to grant youth performance rights for SCHOOL OF ROCK. Now organizations can apply to produce the show and perform as early as January 2016!

In October, Lloyd Webber announced he would be providing musical instruments for 20 public middle schools across New York City as part of a new program called "Rock the Schools." He gifted the City of New York's Fund for Public Schools with $150,000 toward new instruments at a benefit dinner hosted by the Mayor de Blasio and First Lady, Chirlane McCray for the Gracie Mansion Conservancy. The schools will use these instruments to start music education programs.

SCHOOL OF ROCK has the distinction of being the first Broadway show to ever film a 360° performance video. Check out their rendition of "You're in the Band" from every angle!
