Manila, Philippines--Telecom giant Globe and theater company 9 Works Theatrical co-produce the smash rock musical AMERICAN IDIOT by Green Day on a limited engagement from Friday, June 24, until Sunday, July 10, at Globe's Iconic Store at Bonifacio High Street Amphitheater in Taguig. Robbie Guevara ("La Cage Aux Folles") directs.
At a recent press conference held at Hard Rock Cafe, Globe and 9 Works Theatrical presented the complete cast of AMERICAN IDIOT comprised of a mixed bag of rock stars and young musical theater artists, which include former Rivermaya band vocalists Jason Fernandez (Johnny) and Norby David (Theo), Chicosi band lead vocalist Miggy Chavez (Will), Wolfgang band lead vocalist Basti Artadi (St. Jimmy), Nel Gomez (Tunny), Yanah Laurel (Whatsername), Alex Godinez (Heather), Ela Lisondra (Extraordinary Girl), Kai Atienza, Ariel Reonal (Favorite Son), Gian Gloria, Mako Alonso, Sarah Facuri, Chesko Rodriguez, Shalee Vicencio, Mark Tayag, and Kendrick Ibasco.
AMERICAN IDIOT tells the story of three boyhood friends: Johnny, Will, and Tunny. Each is searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world. Winner of two Tony Awards, Best Scenic Design of a Musical for Christine Jones and Best Lighting Design of a Musical for Kevin Adams, and winner of the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album, AMERICAN IDIOT opened on Broadway in 2010 and in the West End in 2015. Besides the hit songs from Green Day's album AMERICAN IDIOT such as "American Idiot," "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Holiday," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," and "Jesus of Suburbia," the musical also includes several songs from Green Day's "21st Century Breakdown" album and an unreleased ballad "When It's Time."
In Asia, AMERICAN IDIOT made its premiere in Tokyo, Japan three years ago. Performances in Seoul, South Korea also followed where Sean Michael Murray played Johnny, Mariah MacFarlane played Heather, and Daniel Jackson played St. Jimmy.
AMERICAN IDIOT, the musical, was written by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer, with music by Green Day and lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong.
