Last week the National YoungArts Foundation took over Manhattan offering approximately 120 aspiring artists (actors, dancers, designers, cinematagraphers, musicians, photographers, singers, visual artists and writers, all ages 15 - 18) the life changing opportunity to participate in more than 50 master classes, as well as studio visits, workshops and tours. Participants had the opportunity to learn from a vast roster of master teachers including:
- Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris;
= Former Gossip Girl and current Girls actress Zuzanna Szadkowski (1997 YoungArts Winner in Theater and U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts);
- Actress and comedian Rachael Harris;
- Bessie Award winning choreographers Ralph Lemon and Reggie Wilson;
- Visionaire co-founders James Kaliardos and Cecilia Dean;
- Best-selling author Joan Morgan;
- Acclaimed painter José Parlá;
- Sought after composer and violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain; and
- Tony Award-winning Singer/Songwriter Stew.
The incredible young artists also had the chance to showcase their talents for the public through four public events:
- Multidisciplinary performance curated by Mikhail Baryshnikov and Pedja Muzijevic (Baryshnikov Arts Center Artistic Administrator) at Baryshnikov Art Center;
- Multidisciplinary performance Directed by Theatre and Opera Director Jay Scheib at Baryshnikov Art Center;
- Multidisciplinary performance Directed by Wicked Concertmaster and Violin Soloist Christian Hebel at New York Live Arts; and an
- Art, design & photography exhibition, writers' readings, and film screenings at MoMA PS1.
