Saycon Sengbloh featuring Kojo Modibo Sun rocked Joe's Pub on Sunday, August 30th with a thrilling concert full of passionate music and song.
Kojo Modibo Sun is not just a band. It's a movement. The newest face of Harlem Rock, Kojo Modibo Sun is about sound and space, taking the melding of rock, blues, gospel, soul, and country & western to entirely new places. Kojo Modibo Sun begins with Scott Patterson. Damian Moore, Toby Wine, and David Alston are also among the groups players. The Ballad Of Kojo Modibo Sun, the group's debut album is available CD Baby.
Liberian-American actress, Saycon Sengbloh can be seen this fall co-starring in FELA! a broadway production about the life of Afro-beat pioneer Fela Kuti. Bill T. Jones is the director a FELA! which stars Sahr Ngaujah, and Lilias White and a fabulous ensemble along with Antibalas the premiere Afro-beat orchestra in the United States. Saycon joins FELA! after appearing on Broadway as "Abe Lincoln" in the smash hit revival of HAIR! She began performing in plays and musicals at Tri-Cities School for Visual and Performing Arts and attended Agnes Scott College. After several productions with the Freddie Hendrick's Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA), she played the daughter of Ann Nesby in Tyler Perry's first musical play, "I Know I've Been Changed." Saycon traveled with the Equity National tour of "Rent," as the seductive lead "Mimi." And has performed on Broadway in 'Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA" in the title role...Saycon became the first African-American actress to perform the role of Elphaba in "Wicked," and also appeared in The Color Purple the musical.
Also a film and television actress, Saycon can be seen in American Gangster, Funny Valentines, Across the Universe, and many commercials. She recently filmed the pilot for "The Prince of Motorcity" helmed by the director of "Lost", Jack Bender and appeared as Nurse Peltzer in an episode of this season's "Law & Order". Saycon Sengbloh featur ed in the February issue of Vogue Magazine and appears on the new Hair soundtrack.
As a recording artist her musical influences include Sade, Mariah Carey, Frank Sinatra, Prince, and Vanity 6! Sengbloh is the executive producer of the CD release "Southern Pin-Up!" which is available on CDbaby.com Itunes, and Rhapsody! Myspace.com/Saycon
