Star of stage and screen Sarah Jessica Parker stopped by the East Room of the White House yesterday for a cameo performance at a talent show with elementary- and middle-school children. First lady Michelle Obama hosted the event to highlight the importance of arts education in public schools.

The event showcased the work of the Turnaround Arts program, which helps low-performing schools increase student achievement through access to arts education. Major celebrities, including Parker, have adopted schools across the country as part of this effort.Parker served as a producer and reprised her Emmy Award-winning role as Carrie Bradshaw in the screen adaptation of the hit HBO series "Sex and the City," followed by the theatrical release of "Sex and the City 2." She won over critics and audiences alike in the series for which she was awarded a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2001. Parker was also an executive producer on the series, which received the Golden Globe for Outstanding Comedy Series three years in a row in 2000, 2001 and 2002, and was honored with an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2001. Her Broadway stage include: Annie, Sylvia, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Once Upon a Mattress.
