Photo Flash: R.Evolucion Latina's KIDS BEYOND BROADWAY Campers Meet the Stars of ON YOUR FEET!

Twenty-five deserving kids from R.Evolución Latina's summer camp had the opportunity to see ON YOUR FEET! this past Thursday, October 15th, kicking off the organization's 2015/2016 season of their Kids Beyond Broadway program. Scroll down for photos of the cast with the kids!

Luis Salgado had a pre-show talk with the kids, shared some pizza and taught a few dance moves from the show. Several of these young people experienced their first Broadway show through this opportunity with R.Evolución Latina. During intermission the mezzanine at the Marquis was full of energy as the kids and young adults expressed how moved they were by hearing their language, music and seeing their heritage on a Broadway stage.

The start of this Kids Beyond Broadway made a huge impact similar to the relatability this community had with the characters of the Tony Award winning musical, IN THE HEIGHTS. After the performance cast members Ana Villafañe, Andrea Burns, Josh Segarra, Alexandria Suarez, Linedy Genao, Carlos Gonzalez, Omar Lopez-Cepero, Doreen Montalvo, and Tanairi Sade-Vasquez met with the group to say hello and sign autographs. Choreographer Sergio Trujillo, who is a huge RL supporter spent time with the kids reminding them anything is possible if the continue Daring to Go Beyond. Follow up essays are part of this program, one camper shared, "I learned from this show that their are obstacles in life and that if you want something you have to fight for it."

The group of students was chosen due to the involvement of the organization they are part of and their participation in R.Evolución Latina's up coming 3rd annual fundraising Dance-A-Thon Saturday, October 24th. On Your Feet! cast members are supporting this event, whether through fundraising like Ana Villafañe, or by kicking off the event at Taj Lounge.

Funds from the 2015 Dance-A-Thon will go toward supporting RL programming and providing more kids with the opportunity to see more theatre. "It just makes sense more than ever, especially during this season on Broadway," says founder/director Luis Salgado. "I felt it so fully while onstage during the performance that our kids were at. We have to inspire our children to be proud of who they are and tell their stories."
