Titled "I can see so far..." , this year's Spring Gala Benefit for the Off-Broadway theater company Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director), was held on Monday evening, April 27th at Guastavino's (409 East 59th Street).
In addition to cocktails, dinner and a silent auction, the evening included entertainment featuring a cast of 11, including 9 Playwrights Horizons alumni performers (Tony Award winner LaChanze, Tony nominee Jonathan Groff, Tony nominee Michael McElroy, Darius de Haas, Dashiell Eaves, Mary Faber, Janet Metz, Cass Morgan, Julia Murney and Chip Zien) with Tony Award winner BD Wong and Eamon Foley.
Celebrating the theater company's 30 years of developing unique and ground-breaking new musicals, the entertainment portion featured performances from the Playwrights Horizons musicals Grey Gardens, Falsettoland, Once on This Island, Violet, The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin, Herringbone and a sneak peak at next season's The Burnt Part Boys. It was directed by Playwrights Horizons' Director of Musical Theater, Kent Nicholson.
