Ken Davenport of Davenport Theatrical Enterprises presented a reading of the new play Schooled, written by Lisa Lewis and directed by Jules Ochoa, as part of the Davenport Developmental Reading Series. Schooled stars Tony nominee Peter Friedman (Playwrights Horizon's Circle Mirror Transformation), Sarah Steele (Lincoln Center Theatre/LCT3's Slowgirl), Harry Zittel (Lincoln Center Theatre/LCT3's All-American) and Zoë Winters (Lincoln Center Theatre/LCT3's 4000 Miles). Schooled by Lisa Lewis explores the widening chasm between privilege, economic class and the opportunities for success. Two students vie for a competitive grant from their roguish professor in a taut threesome that tests their romantic relationship and their ethics. A biting drama with surprising humor, Schooled is an examination of the lies we tell ourselves, and the truths we refuse to believe.

A New York Times-published essayist and acclaimed storyteller, Lisa Lewis' plays have been developed by Naked Angels Tuesdays@9, The New Ohio Theatre, New Helvetia Theatre and The Eureka Project. Her essays and profiles have appeared in The New York Times, ELLE Magazine, Kirkus Reviews and New York Press. A graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Dramatic Writing Program, Lewis spent six years writing script coverage and development notes for New Line Cinema, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal at Tribeca Film, and The Weinstein Company.
