Night at the Pier, Family Equality Council's annual New York City event, brings together LGBT parents, friends and allies to celebrate the progress made as a community of loving families towards full equality. This year, Night at the Pier featured a cocktail reception, a seated dinner, live entertainment, a silent auction and the opportunity to mingle with old friends and meet new ones. The leading child welfare experts, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the National Adoption Center, say gay parents are good parents. "Any attempt to preclude or prevent gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals or couples from parenting, based solely on their sexual orientation, is not in the best interest of children," says the Child Welfare League of America.
Family Equality Council works at all levels of government to advance full social and legal equality on behalf of the approximately one million lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender families raising two million children. Parenting protections, adoption, repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act, health insurance reform, immigration reform, safe schools, and workplace equality are many of the issues Family Equality Council is currently working on at the state and federal level.
