Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, Jeremy Jordan and Queen Latifah star in the upcoming film "Joyful Noise." The film tells the story of two women who band together to stop a small-town gospel choir from shutting down.
Queen Latifah plays a mother who is put in charge of a gospel choir after the death of its choir director. Parton will appear as the choir director's widow who hopes to take over her late husband's job; Jordan will play her grandson.
Todd Graff, whose credits include "Camp" and "Bandslam" wrote and directs the film.
Parton wrote the score for the musical 9 TO 5, which played Broadway in 2009 and will begin a national tour next month. She also co-starred in the film version of "9 to 5" as well as "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." Latifah received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Matron Mama Morton in "Chicago." She also appeared in the film version of the musical "Hairspray." Her films credits include "Last Holiday" and "Bringing Down the House." Jordan, who recently led NEWSIES at the Paper Mill Playhouse, is currently appearing on Broadway in BONNIE & CLYDE, which will close December 30.
