On Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, The National Jazz Museum in Harlem(NJMH) hosted its 2017 Annual Benefit Concert honoring three pillars of the jazz community.
Honorees included world renowned pianist and composers, Randy Weston who received the Legends of Jazz Award; celebrated jazz presenter, Jazzmobile which was awarded the Jazz and Community Leadership Award (accepted by Jazzmobile Executive Director & CEO Robin Bell-Stevens) , and attorney Arthur H. Barnes, who will be presented the Award for Extraordinary Commitment and Contributions to Jazz and the Community
The one-night-only celebration, hosted by WBGO's Midday Jazz host Rhonda Hamilton, featured performances by three of the most exciting names in jazz, including GRAMMY-winning vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant in a duo performance with pianist Aaron Diehl, and a solo piano performance by three-time GRAMMY-nominated piano phenom, Joey Alexander.
