Reviews have poured in extolling the clever juxtaposition of Anton Chekhov's prose with Cole Porter's music & lyrics in MR. CHEKHOV & MR. PORTER. The triumvirate of talent behind this marriage of masters is Janet Bentley as director; Andy Evan Cohen as musical director, and Madeline Jaye as choreographer.
Ms. Bentley is a director, dramaturg, writer, actor, sound designer, composer, and musician with an MFA in dramaturgy from the University of Iowa and many years of training and experience in piano, dance, voice (opera and musical theatre), acting, and teaching theatre. She is co-artistic director of the newly formed Roly Poly Productions and a member of Nylon Fusion Theatre Company and New York Madness.
Andy Evan Cohen is an award-winning sound and video designer and composer with his music and designs having been performed and featured all over the world, including productions in Scotland, Switzerland, Israel, Canada, and New Zealand. Other media credits include supplying music for PBS Documentary films and UN Radio (Africa).
Andy holds degrees from Oberlin and The Manhattan School of Music. Madeline Jaye has choreographic credits that include The Medicine Show Theatre, WorkShop Theatre, and Industrials for Mattel Toys, Inc., Bell South, Barbie Fashion Summit, Dole Foods' Easter on the White House Lawn, Hewlette-Packard, IBM ThinkPad, and productions at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Inst. She teaches Ballet Jazz/Theater Dance and Movement at LSTFI and NYU, has been on faculty at AADA, Steps, Third Street Music School, and guest teacher at AMDA, Broadway Dance Center, Steffi Nossen School of Dance, and Laguardia HS of Performing Arts.
