Tisch New Theatre will present HAIRSPRAY, the musical based on the 1988 film written and directed by John Waters, April 1-4 at the NYU Skirball Center. With music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman, and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, HAIRSPRAY the musical premiered on Broadway in 2002 and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at the stars in character below!

Set in 1962 Baltimore, HAIRSPRAY tells the story of plump teenager Tracy Turnblad, whose life dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she launches an ambitious campaign to integrate the show. HAIRSPRAY focuses on civil rights, the beauty of diversity and individuality, and acts as a beacon of hope and inclusiveness in the theatre world and beyond.

HAIRSPRAY is entirely produced, directed, designed, and performed by students. Tisch New Theatre was founded in 2009 with the goal to welcome more non-drama students into the theater. TNT is committed to developing ambitious work intended to entertain, inspire, and unite the artistic efforts of the Tisch Community with the entire student body.

With an ongoing relationship alongside the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, TNT recently produced the 2013 production of Leonard Bernstein's WEST SIDE STORY. Last spring, TNT brought Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman's CATCH ME IF YOU CAN back to the New York stage to great acclaim. Last fall, they mounted the immersive production of Stephen Sondheim's classic, COMPANY.

Now under the leadership of producer Jason Arnold and director/choreographer Marc Anthony Ferre, TNT's production of HAIRSPRAY will feature the following: orchestrations by Harold Wheeler; music direction by Benjamin Weiss; sets by Ryan Wilbat; costumes by Hahnji Jang; lighting by Kelley Shih; sound by Neal Goleta; hair & makeup by Martín Lara Avila; production stage manager, Jason Thinger; production manager, Kris Opperman; technical supervisor, Evan Kutcher; general manager, Christopher Pritchard; associate producer, Daniel Unitas. Produced by Jason Arnold in association with Tisch New Theatre and NYU Skirball Center through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

Cast includes: Casey Whyland, Jacob Voigt, Colten Blair, Austin Crute, Haley Callahan Fish, Taylor Johnson, Emilio Madrid, Matt McLean, Sarah Musicant, Ada Obieshi, Maksim Tokarev, Chloe Troast, Damarcus Bell, Ariel Blackwood, Sojourner Brown, Megan Callahan, Drew Carr, Tony Carrubba, Jordan-Amanda Hall, Naree Ketudat, Malachi Morris, Whitney Mulhern, Martavius Parrish, Andy Richardson, Marcus "Zebrakid" Smith, Portland Thomas, Sarah Treanor, and Daniel Youngelman.
