MCC Theater, now in its 20th year, will present the New York premiere of The Wooden Breeks by Glen Berger (Underneath the Lintel), which will be directed by Trip Cullman (Dog Sees God). The play will open at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121
Christopher Street, NYC) on February 21st; the show began previews on February 3rd.
"A comic tale set in the fantastical, miserable hamlet of Brood, The Wooden Breeks
conjures up a marvelously imaginative world peopled by a large cast of
dreamers, schemers, and various sets of would-be lovers. Tormented by
the memory of a beautiful young woman he adored and lost, and saddled
with the bastard child left behind as a painful reminder of their
doomed romance, a village tinker-turned-poet tries to ease his pain by
conjuring up a hilarious and extremely moving theatrical tale, a story
made up for the young boy as they sit in front of the dying embers of
their hearth," state press notes. The Wooden Breeks stars (in alphabetical order) Louis Cancelmi (Vincent in Brixton), Veanne Cox (MCC's Last Easter; Caroline, or Change), Maria Dizzia (Apparition), Jaymie Dornan (The Notorious Bettie Page), Ron Cephas Jones (Our Lady of 121st Street), Steve Mellor (Big River), Ana Reeder (Small Tragedy), Adam Rothenberg (Danny and the Deep Blue Sea) and T. Ryder Smith (Thom Pain: Based on Nothing). Tickets are $60.00 and may be purchased by calling Ticket Central at 212-279-4200.
