On April 5th, A Class Act NY, New York's award-winning acting studio for kids and teens hosted a Little Mermaid Workshop with Sierra Boggess, the star of the show! Sierra worked with twenty lucky participants ranging in ages from 7 - 16 on songs and scene work from Mermaid as well as musical theatre audition technique.
During lunch break, there was a question and answer session. Sierra also signed autographs and took pictures with the kids.
Artistic Director, Jessica Rofe said, "Initially, Sierra was not going to sing for the kids It was a two day show for her. But by the end of class, she was so inspired that she decided to sing "Part of Your World." Her voice was so magnificent and it was a great learning opportunity for kids to see how important it is to make bold choices and inhabit your character without inhibition. The same was true of Andrea McArdle at our Annie Workshop. She sang "Tomorrow" for our students, in the original key nonetheless! Parents who were listening from outside the door were crying!"
Towards the second half of the Mermaid Workshop, Paige Blansfield of Tara Rubin Casting, the casting directors of the show, came in to conduct a mock audition. Each child was given notes and asked to perform a second time incorporating the adjustments they were given.
Rofe said, "The workshop was a huge success and Sierra was fabulous with the kids. She was so nurturing and quick on her feet. She was really hands on and did some great exercises with the kids. She has agreed to do more workshops with us!"
