On Thursday, July 9, 2015, BROADWAY SERVES kicked off its summer-long partnership with the Children's Aid Society. Child volunteers from the theater community teamed up with CAS' kindergarten-3rd grade campers to fill and decorate toiletry bags. These toiletries will be donated to formerly homeless residents currently living in an Urban Pathways facility. Scroll down for a look at KINKY BOOTS cast members/alumni Jeremy Villas, D'Andre Lee and Douglas Baldeo volunteering their time for the cause!
Throughout July and August, adult Broadway Serves volunteers (including members of the Broadway casts of SOUL DOCTOR and AMAZING GRACE) are also teaming up with the Children's Aid Society for a Summer Theater Intensive, working with the CAS camp's 4th & 5th graders to create short plays about making healthy choices.
The theme this year for the Children's Aid Society's camp is social justice, and community issues such as homelessness and health/nutrition. BROADWAY SERVES will be working closely with camp staff to help the campers discover how they too can make a difference in their community.
BROADWAY SERVES is a service organization comprised of members of the Broadway community who are looking to "be the change we want to see in the world." Our mission is to provide a forum for open discourse on issues that affect us all, and to provide opportunities for community service to Broadway and theater professionals. BROADWAY SERVES is an affiliate of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
