Last night, sixteen female Broadway stars were featured in Broadway Sings Rihanna, the latest concert in the Broadway Sings concert series. The tribute concerts take the music of well-known music icons and create new, unique arrangements and orchestrations by twisting the style to fit the strength of the performer. Previous fifteen concerts have included Adele, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, and Sara Bareilles. On June 18, the series will continue with Broadway Sings Kelly Clarkson.
Performers included Caroline Bowman (Kinky Boots), Lindsay Brett Carothers (Wicked), Kennedy Caughell(Beautiful), Keri René Fuller (Waitress), Kathryn Gallagher (Spring Awakening), Alexa Green (Wicked),Emma Hunton (Spring Awakening), Joanna A. Jones (Hamilton), Lexi Lawson (Hamilton), Kristolyn Lloyd(Dear Evan Hansen), Kirstin Maldonado (Kinky Boots), Anastacia McCleskey (Waitress), Abby Mueller(Beautiful), Onyie Nwachukwu (Rent), Jessica Vosk (Wicked), and Raena White (The Lion King).
The concert gave tribute to this versatile artist and her extensive repertoire, including "Umbrella", "Diamonds", "Love on the Brain", and "Disturbia". The music was orchestrated and arranged by Joshua Stephen Kartes.
