Actor/playwright Calvin Levels portrays the legendary 20th century writer James Baldwin in the new play James Baldwin: Down from the Mountaintop, coming to Baldwin's native city, NYC for one performance only on Thursday, April 26 at 7 pm at the James Baldwin School (351 W. 18 St.) in Manhattan. 

The performance will benefit the Baldwin School, a a public college prepatory school, with tickets reasonably priced at $35 and $50.  The performance of the play will be followed by a post-show discussion with Baldwin's publisher Sol Stein and biographer David Leeming. The play traces Baldwin's life from his childhood in Harlem, the formative years he spent living in Greenwich Village, and his adult life in Paris and  subsequent death in the South of France.  A Tony Award-nominated actor, Calvin Levels has performed Down from the Mountaintop in cities and on college campuses across the U.S. for the past three years.
