Photo Flash: JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE at the Belasco

This production is being presented on Broadway while LCT's award winning production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific continues its run at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.

Joe Turner's Come and Gone, part of Mr. Wilson's ten-play Century Cycle, which depicts the African American experience in each decade of the twentieth century, originally opened on Broadway in 1988, receiving a Tony Award nomination for Best Play and winning that year's New York Drama Critics Circle Award. Set in 1911, it tells the story of Herald Loomis who, after serving seven years hard labor, has journeyed North with his young daughter and arrives at a Pittsburgh boarding house filled with memorable characters who aid him in his search for his inner freedom. Constanza Romero, Mr. Wilson's wife, has said that of all of August Wilson's plays, Joe Turner's Come and Gone" was his favorite.

Joe Turner's Come and Gone has sets by Michael Yeargan, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Brian MacDevitt, sound by Scott Lehrer and Leon Rothenberg, music by Taj Mahal, and movement by Dianne McIntyre.

The playing schedule for Joe Turner's Come and Gone is Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8pm, with matinees Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays at 3pm (PLEASE NOTE: There will be no Saturday matinee on March 21).
