Over the last eight seasons audiences of "PREformances with Allison Charney" relish the opportunity to experience the unexpected. Tonight, will be no exception, as baritone Suchan Kim joins PREformances' featured guests' pianist Pamela Goldberg and cellist Kasja William-Olsson in a program of works by Bach, Debussy, Leoncavallo, Massenet, Mozart, Shubert and Strauss.

Mr. Kim will perform in lieu of internationally acclaimed soprano Indira Mahajan who is indisposed. Mr. Kim's recent operatic roles have merited critical acclaim by Opera News, Parterre Box and The New York Times, who said "Suchan Kim commanded each scene he appeared in with a focused, muscular baritone and brought the house down with a virtuosic portrayal of the increasingly drunken servant, Germano."

For tonight's performance Suchan Kim will sing the Nedda/Silvio duet from Pagliacci by Leoncavallo with PREformances' host and noted soprano Allison Charney and collaborative pianist Craig Ketter. Mr. Kim will also "preform" Count Almaviva's Act 3 aria "Hai gia vinta la causa" from Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart. Mr. Kim will sing the principal role of Count Almaviva in Opera Williamsburg, Virginia's April 2017 production of The Marriage of Figaro.

A native of Busan, South Korea, Suchan Kim has earned distinction in New York. In 2011 he became an Eastern District Winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and he received the Opera Award from Mannes Opera in 2013.

Suchan recently sang the role of Silvio in Boardwalk Opera's production of Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci. He has performed as a resident in San Francisco Opera's Merola Opera Program as well as with The Metropolitan Opera Guild, Mannes Opera, Opera in Williamsburg, Bare Opera, Loft Opera, Sinfonietta of Riverdale, New York Grand Opera, New York Lyric Opera, Fairfield County Chorale, Lyric Chamber Music Society of New York, National Theater of Korea, Seoul Arts Center and several opera companies in South Korea. His role credits include Don Giovanni and Leporello in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Count and Figaro in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo in Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte, Enrico in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Marcello and Schaunard in Puccini's La Boheme, Ford in Verdi's Falstaff, Marullo in Verdi's Rigoletto, Tarquinius in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, Dandini in Rossini's La Cenerentola, Germano in Rossini's La Scala di Seta, Salieri in Rimsky-Korsakov's Mozart and Salieri, Paquiro in Granados' Goyescas, Fiorello and L'Ufficiale in Rossini's IL Barbiere di Siviglia, Le chat and L'horlage comtoise in Ravel's L'Enfant et Les Sortilèges, Simeon from Debussy's L'Enfant Prodigue, King Solomon in Dina Pruzhansky's Hebrew opera 'Shulamit' and The Critic in John Gilbert's multimedia opera 'Rotation'. He studies with Arthur Levy.
