Since the release of Brooklyn earlier this fall, Saoirse Ronan has received critical acclaim for her performance as Irish Immigrant Eilis. After recently winning the New York Film Critics Circle and British Independent Film Awards for her performance, Ms. Ronan was nominated this week for Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Awards. When asked what the Golden Globe nomination means, she said:
"I can't express how special it is that this little film called Brooklyn has been embraced by so many people around the world. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for your support. The last time I was at the Golden Globes, I needed a chaperone - I'm so excited to be there for a film that means this much to me."
Not content to sit on her laurels, Mr. Ronan will take on her latest challenge when she makes her stage and Broadway debuts in a new production of the Arthur Miller Classic, The Crucible. The production, in which she will star opposite Ben Whishaw, Sophie Okonedo and Ciarán Hinds, will be direct by the award winning international director Ivo van Hove. THE CRUCIBLE begins performances Monday, February 29, and opens on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street).
