Daughters of Troy presented a performance of mostly new theatrical works-in-progress at Dixon Place on November 21st at 7:30pm. Photographer Larissa Nowak captured some fantastic shots of rehearsal for those that missed this one-night performance.
Daughters of Troy uses classical text, visual art, music, dance and current events to deconstruct female archetypes through the lens of the Trojan War. ??The project is a collaboration between theatre and visual artists led by Aubrey Saverino in partnership with international art organization, RE:ARTISTE.
The Dixon Place performance built on the theatrical explorations started during Barton Booth's Make Room residency on Governors Island this past summer. Several new pieces were presented, focusing on different women affected by the Trojan War including Andromache, Clytemnestra, Cassandra, Dido, Iphigenia, Penthesilea and Helen of Troy. All of pieces are written by women.
Daughters of Troy will continue to develop this theatrical event.
