MATILDA THE MUSICAL welcomes a new Miss Trunchbull tonight when Bryce Ryness takes over the role of the child-hurling headmistress of Crunchem Hall.
Bryce Ryness joins the Broadway production after originating the role of the terrifying headmistress on MATILDA's first National tour. His other Broadway credits include: Hair (Drama Desk nomination), First Date, Leap of Faith, and Legally Blonde. Off-Broadway, he's premiered and/or originated roles in Long Story Short, Fly by Night, See Rock City & Other Destinations, Around the World in 80 Days, and Crossing Brooklyn. Regionally, he's originated roles in Sleeping Beauty Wakes, Floyd Collins (Los Angeles premiere), and starred in Cabaret (Reprise Theater Co., LA). He also led the national touring company of RENT in 2006, playing Roger. With his band, RYNESS, he's written and recorded two albums, available on iTunes. On Film: Tangled, Sacrifice. On TV: "Law & Order: SVU," "Peter Pan Live!," "It Could Be Worse," "Submissions Only," "Political Animals," "Just for Kicks," "Late Show," and "The Tonight Show." Off-stage, he is the host of the upcoming podcast series "The Hook," an unconventional examination of life in the performing arts.
Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers, MATILDA THE MUSICAL opened on April 11, 2013 to rapturous reviews at the Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street). Previews began March 4. Celebrated on 10 "Top Ten" lists of 2013, the production received four Tony Awards® and a Tony® Honor for Excellence in the Theater for each of the four girls who shared the title role, as well as two Outer Critics Circle Awards, five Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. MATILDA THE MUSICAL is currently the 76th longest running musical in Broadway history. The Tony Award® winning show will close on January 1, 2017.
