Photo Flash: Ed Schultz, Denyce Graves and Tony Danza Honor Teachers at AFT Conference

Scroll down for a photo from last night's American Federation of Teachers' "Making a Difference" event in which celebrities honored teachers who made a difference in their lives. They spoke before an audience of more than 2,000 educators at the AFT's conference in Washington, D.C.

In the photo are: Tom Calhoun, president of the Norfolk Federation of Teachers and a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk; Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers; MSNBC's Ed Schultz, who honored his alma mater, Maury High School in Norfolk, Va.; Judith Grove Allen, retired Washington, D.C., public school teacher and former assistant principal of Duke Ellington School of the Arts - was opera star Denyce Graves' music teacher throughout her DC public school years.); Denyce Graves, mezzo soprano opera star; David Cohn, was Tony Danza's co-teacher at Northeast High School in Philadelphia in 2009-10. Now an administrator for Springfield, VT public schools; Tony Danza, actor, taught 10th grade English at Northeast High School and wrote about the experience in his book, I'd Like to Apologize To Every Teacher I've Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High; and Robert McCartney (moderator for the event), columnist, the Washington Post.

The AFT represents 1.5 million pre-K through 12th-grade teachers; paraprofessionals and other school-related personnel; higher education faculty and professional staff; federal, state and local government employees; nurses and healthcare workers; and early childhood educators.
