Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest recently returned to the heart of London for four weeks only. The show, which opened at the Jermyn Street Theatre on May 16th, runs through Saturday, May 12th. The cast of the production, attired in full Victorian costume, recently entertained tourists and posed for a picture in sunny Trafalgar Square.
"Central to proceedings is the dominant figure of Lady Bracknell, whose disapproval of Jack as a potential fiancée for her daughter Gwendolyn acts as a catalyst for the events that ensue. James Pellow undertakes the invigorating challenge of playing the patriarchal role of Lady Bracknell in a way that reinforces the absurdity of her character whilst conveying the sincerity of her convictions and social status." The show also stars Stephen Carlile, who recently played Freddy in the UK tour of My Fair Lady, as Algernon, Ian Hallard (Where the Heart Is) as Jack, and Georgina Carey as Gwendolyn."
