The New York Public Library's Council of Conservators presented a unique evening of poetry with celebrated Irish writer and theatrical producer Josephine Hart, along with Tony Award-winning actor Brian Dennehy (Death of a Salesman, dir. Robert Falls, 1999) and Olivier Award-winning actor Mark Strong (Twelfth Night, Donmar Warehouse, 2003). They read selections from works by American poets Robert Frost and Robert Lowell.
This was the first time Ms. Hart brought her sold-out British Library poetry evening to the United States. This program will coincide with the publication of her new book with companion CD,
Catching Life by the Throat: How to Read a Poem and Why.
The Conservators Program, which directly supports the Library's Annual Fund, is a membership group of nearly 800 individuals. In appreciation of an annual contribution of $1,500 or more, members are offered exclusive benefits, including book previews, tours of the collections, intimate discussions and larger forums led by some of the world's most prominent academics.
