Legendary rock group Rush and Doug Shafer, CEO of Shafer Vineyards, were honored at the T.J. Martell Foundation's 11th-Annual World Tour of Wine last night at Capitale (130 Bowery) in New York City. Rush member Alex Lifeson accepted the honor on behalf of the band.
Additional guests included Constantine Maroulis, Montego Glover, Andy Karl, Orfeh, Karen Pittman; Radio Personality Robin Quivers, Hall of Fame Baseball Player Eddie Murray and President & Chief Operating Officer of RCA Records Tom Corson.
Each year, wine enthusiasts and collectors come together to raise glasses and funds for the T.J. Martell Foundation, the music industry's largest foundation that funds innovative medical research focused on finding cures for leukemia, cancer and AIDS. The event featured a silent and live auction with all-inclusive trips to wine country and very rare experiences in music and sports entertainment. The Foundation sources and supports early-stage research projects aimed at developing more effective clinical treatments for patients which otherwise might not be funded.
