Cast and creative team members from Broadway's Newsies will meet with and teach theatre students from across the country in four separate Broadway Student Summits.
Now in their fourth year, The Summits are intended to be a forum for motivated high school and middle school theatre students to learn from – and connect with – the Broadway community – and each other. The 3-day program includes 8 workshops with guest Broadway teachers including
Jess LeProtto (Newsies cast member),
Mark Hummel (Newsies Music Director) and Broadway's top casting directors – and a ticket to Disney's Newsies and a post show discussion with cast members.
Workshops include Audition Techniques, Newsies Dance Class, Acting, Musical Theatre Performance, Comedy Sports and Improvisation, Scene Study and more. The students also have the (optional) opportunity to audition for a Broadway casting director.
The BSS will take place on the following dates: Session A: November 10 -12, 2012, Session B: January 19 – 21, 2013, Session C: February 16 – 18, 2013 and Session D: April 5 – 7, 2013. All Sessions take place at Pearl Rehearsal Studios, 500 8th Avenue, New York, NY.
The response from parents and theatre educators to the program has been fantastic! "This is my first time attending the Broadway Student Summit and I am so pleased with the wonderful opportunity that you put together for the students. I am in full support of any program that encourages young people to be smart, creative and confident in their individuality. The weekend was diverse, organized and genuine." – Valerie Myette (R.I. parent and attendee)
