New York, March 15, 2013 -- The Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS -328 West 48th Street) stages the Tony Award-winning musical "Cabaret," featuring book by Christopher Isherwood, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb, until tomorrow, March 16 at 2 and 7 p.m. Kyle Pleasant ("Across the Universe," "Cabaret") directs and choreographs.

Set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power, "Cabaret" focuses on the nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around the 19-year-old English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with the young American writer Cliff Bradshaw.

"I'm thrilled to be making my PPAS directing debut with 'Cabaret' and with such an incredibly talented group of artists. 'Cabaret' is a non-stop ride of splendor, decadence, and turmoil. I believe 'Cabaret' is a story that needs to be told and needs to be heard. It reminds us of what can happen when we're not allowed to celebrate who we are, and how ideas can spin into threats. It's quite a ride," said Pleasant in a statement.

Chuck Vassallo, director of performing arts at PPAS, which offers performing arts students in grades six to 12 the opportunity to learn with real-world arts practitioners in the heart of New York City, added: "PPAS has long been interested in presenting musicals that challenge -- challenge our students, challenge our audience, and challenge our beliefs. 'Cabaret' is theatre that forces us all to think. Although known as a 'dance show,' it is anchored by a book that presents the stories of a rich variety of characters in realistic settings with real problems."

"Cabaret's" design team includes James Fenton (scenic designer), Simon Cleveland (lighting designer), Bruno Diaz (sound designer), and Josh Schulteis (costume designer).

Brett Kristofferson ("Merrily We Roll Along," "Into the Woods") is musical director.

Tickets are available at the door: $20 (adults), $10 (students)
