Resounding applause followed the performance of the National Anthem this week by Broadway performers Timothy Shew (Wonderful Town, The Scarlet Pimpernel), Gregg Edelman (Wonderful Town, Into the Woods) and Michael McElroy (Big River, The Wild Party), at the official opening ceremony of Aviator Sports and Recreation, a 25-acre, mega sports complex located at Floyd Bennett Field (FBF) in Brooklyn, NY.

Numerous local dignitaries and athletes were on hand to celebrate.  FBF was NYC's first municipal airport and is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area.  To create this incredible facility, Aviator Sports refurbished and transformed four historic aircraft hangars and surrounding grounds, in partnership with the National Park Service. It was noted during the ceremony that Edelman played Charles Lindbergh, who has a history with Floyd Bennett Field, in a production of the play Flight last year at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.  Aviator Sports and Recreation provides a wide variety of sports leagues and activities, including hockey, ice skating, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, soccer, football and much more, to the unique and diverse neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens.
