Beginning in 1972, the President of the United States has proclaimed every August 26th as Women's Equality Day. With increased attention in recent years on issues of equality, including equal pay, reproductive rights, and systematic misogyny, this year's celebration has taken on extra importance.

Many women have taken to social media to celebrate the day with either messages or by posting photos of themselves flexing in honor of the iconic World War II era Rosie the Riveter. Rosie was symbolic of the millions of American women who kept the country running while many young men were fighting overseas.
