Lincoln Center Theaters presents the world premiere production of Bernarda Alba, a new musical with words and music by Michael John LaChiusa, opening at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater March 6th at 7:00pm
Bernarda Alba, directed and choreographed by Graciela Daniele, is adapted from the play The House of Bernarda Alba by Federico Garcia Lorca. Bernarda Alba tells the dark story of a newly-widowed matron (played by Tony-Award winner Phylicia Rashad), who enforces an intense mourning period on her five daughters (played by Judith Blazer, Nikki M. James, Sally Murphy, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Saundra Santiago). Tensions build in the rural Spanish home, and the imprisoned women result to hectic violence.
The cast also features Yolande Bavan, Candy Buckley, Laura Shoop and Nancy Ticotin. The production team for Bernarda Alba includes Deborah Abramson (musical direction), Christopher Barreca (sets), Toni Leslie-James (costumes), Michael Starobin (orchestrations), and Stephen Strawbridge (lighting).
Bernarda Alba runs Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8pm, with matinees Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are $70 to $75 and are available at the Lincoln Center Theater Box Office (150 West 65th Street) or call 212-239-6200. Photo credit: Paul Kolnik
