On Wednesday, February 6, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz welcomed New York City's new Youth Poet Laureate, Ashley August, to Borough Hall. Scroll below for a photo!
Ashley, a native of East Flatbush, is the second consecutive Youth Poet Laureate from Brooklyn, replacing fellow Brooklynite Ishmael Islam. Ashley was joined by Michael Cirelli, executive director of Urban Word NYC-which oversees the Youth Poet Laureate program along with the New York City Campaign Finance Board-and Onida Coward-Mayers, executive director of the New York City Voter Assistance Commission.
