On Monday, March 7th, twelve performers joined composer Keith Varney onstage for a showcase of his original songs, Inappropriate for an Office, at the Laurie Beechman Theatre.
Among the evening's performers were Kate Wetherhead (Legally Blonde, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Submissions Only), Autumn Hurlbert (Legally Blonde, Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for Elle Woods), Howie Michael Smith (Avenue Q) and Brad Nacht (Billy Elliot)
The concert featured highlights from Keith Varney's musical, I Got Fired: A Semi-Autobiographical Sort-of-True Revenge Musical, which played to sold-out audiences at NYMF 2010. I Got Fired subsequently won both the Theater for the American Musical Award and the DIMF Production Award (which includes an upcoming production with South Korea's Daegu International Musical Festival in June 2011). Varney's other projects include Elway the Musical, Joshua the Musical, and the ten-minute Scooby-Doosical, all of which were sampled during the evening.
Rounding out the cast were Shana Barone, Robyn Corujo, Devon Goffman, Collin Leydon, Matt Lutz, Derek Roland and EJ Zimmerman, with accompaniment by Andrew Smithson (piano) and Michael Indeglio (guitar). The event was produced by Liz Ulmer and Kendra Kay.
