The April issue of Vogue has got a bit more magic than usual thanks to a little show called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Playwright Jack Thorne told Vogue: "We wanted to tell a story about kids who, unlike Harry and his friends, weren't comfortable at Hogwarts. And we also wanted to look at what it's like when you're a parent reflecting on your own childhood and what that childhood made you into. Harry is at that age where he has to come to terms with things that he has never sorted out."
Director John Tiffany adds; "With a film, you're very much a witness, and with a book, it's just you. But in the theater, you're having a shared experience-and it's very close to utter magic."
A play in two parts, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child had its first preview of Part One tonight, Friday, March 16 at 8:00 PM, with the first preview of Part Two tomorrow, Saturday, March 17 at 8:00 PM. The production officially opens on Sunday, April 22 at the Lyric Theatre (214 West 43rd Street, New York, NY).
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The critically acclaimed production received its world premiere in July 2016 at the Palace Theatre in London where it continues to play to sold out houses.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
